There was not a single moment we felt unsafe, or we faced homophobic behavior. The opposite was the case. Besides the pride festival and the gay neighborhoods, Chicago offers diversity throughout the city. June is a month dedicated to honoring the legacy of the Stonewall Uprising. From street festivals and concerts to vibrant parties, every corner of Chicago bursts with energy and inclusivity during Pride Month. The Center hosts a variety of cultural events including concerts, theater performances and lecture series, as well as sports and recreation programs. The stretch of entertainment on North Halsted from Belmont Ave. Tequila Co , slushy drinks on the rooftop deck and show-tune nights at Sidetrack , to banging nightclub DJs until 4am at Hydrate Nigthclub , you can find just about anything to match your taste and time of day.

Although Illinois became the first state in the nation to legalize private, consensual, homosexual relations in , the authorities remained intent on eliminating public expressions of homosexuality; the local media assisted in this endeavor by publishing the names and addresses of those arrested in raids.
