President Bush’s Daughter Barbara Speaks Out for Gay Marriage
The bride - named after her grandmother, former First Lady Barbara Bush, who passed away earlier this year - married screenwriter Craig Coyne. Mr Bush, 72, and Mrs Bush, 71, announced the nuptials in a statement on Monday. The family-only ceremony was held outside, overlooking the ocean at Walker's Point, where the elder Mr Bush - who is now 94 - lives.

The former president was an opponent of same-sex marriage and in announced his support for a proposed constitutional amendment to outlaw it. But his wife, former first lady Laura Bush, has said she supports gay marriage as does former Vice President Dick Cheney, whose daughter Mary is gay.

As president, George W. Bush pushed for a Constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, and Republicans depended on gay marriage referenda to drive out conservative turnout in election years. Barbara has had gay friends dating back at least to her time at Yale University, and her support for same-sex marriage comes as no surprise to her friends.
